Day 7 of our
16 day Holland America cruise.
We sailed into
the port town of PQ, with three of the Guatemala’s 280+ volcanoes in the
background.
We then
negotiated our mini-van and driver, Santiago, for the day, with fellow
passengers, Lee & Shirley, Gary & Roni, to visit the UNESCO World-heritage
old capital city of Antigua, which is 4,500 feet above sea-level.
Our first
stop was at San Agustin Church.
The next
stop was at the Archway, with the Church and Convent of La Merced behind it.
We then
visited the Jade Museum and Factory.
We then
stopped at the Central Plaza, which is bounded by the Town Hall, the Palace and
San Jose Cathedral.
Next stop was at the San Francisco Church and Convent.
Next stop
was at the Museum of Santo Domingo, which also houses a 5 star hotel.
We then
drove up to Cerro de la Santa Cruz, for a spectacular view of the city, with
the Agua Volcano in the background.
Our final
stop was at the Cultural Centre.
On our drive
back to PQ we passed Fuego and Acatenango Volcanoes.
