Corinto -
Leon, Nicaragua
Day 8 of our
16 day Holland America cruise.
We sailed
into the port of Corinto, with volcanoes in the background.
We were
greeted in port by some local young girls.
We then
joined with another four couples, including Gary & Roni, in negotiating a
mini-van, driver, and guide, Roger.
Our first
stop was at a coffee field, on our way north.
We then
headed north-east, and stopped at San Jacinto Bubbling Mud Pots, where Di was
escorted by her new friends.
We then
drove south to the colonial city of Leon.
After a
short walk, we arrived at La Asuncion Cathedral, where Bill climbed up to roof
for panoramic views, overlooking the central park, which is where the
Sandino-led revolution began. Di and the others walked through the market to
another church.
We then
returned to Corinto, where we went to the local square and market.
We then
sailed out in the afternoon, and later, experienced a lovely Nicaraguan sunset.
