Day 37 – Wednesday 16 November

Cartagena, Columbia

Day 12 of our 16 day Holland America cruise.

We arrived at midday, and walked through the welcoming terminal, with its tropical garden, which has many exotic birds and animals in it.

We then negotiated a car and driver, Rambo, with fellow passengers, Gary & Roni, and Shirly & Lee. We were very fortunate that after several days of heavy rain, Cartagena was dry, hot and humid today.

Our first stop was at La Popa Monastery, for the view of the old and new cities.

Next stop was at San Felipe Fortress, with a statue of Don Blas de Lezo in front of it, as well as some local traders.

We then entered the Old/Walled City, and stopped at Las Bovedas, to look at the local tourist wares.

We then walked around the Old City, enjoying more buildings, sculptures, statues and local people.

As we set sail north, we had a reasonably clear night to see the moon.
