Avignon, France (Day 2 of 8).
A cool, drizzly day, during which we walked about the walled
city.
Our first stop was at the Palais des Papes (Pope’s Palace), which
was the centre of Western Christianity during the 14th Century, and is the
largest Gothic palace in the world.
After eating an ordinary lunch in a restaurant in the touristy Place de
l'Horloge (Clock Tower Square), we went to Pont d’Avignon (Pont St-Benezet).
Next we visited the Cathedrale Notre-Dame des Doms.
We then walked around the Jardin du Rocher des Doms, before
retiring early to our apartment.
