Pont du Gard / Nimes, France.

In the morning, we drove to nearby Pont du Gard, the magnificent Roman aqueduct, built around 19 BC.

We continued onto the lovely city of Nimes, which we walked around until the early evening, admiring the architecture.

We toured the Roman coliseum, Les Arenas, built in the 1st Century.

We also visited the Roman Temple, Maison Carree, which has the Norman Foster-designed Carre d’Art (modern art) in the background.

We passed the Roman Porte d’Auguste, built in 15 BC.

We went up to the top of the Jardins de La Fontaine, where we saw the Roman Toure Magne, built around 15 BC.

We then drove back to Avignon (1 hour) for a pasta dinner.
