Day 51 - Tuesday 19 November

Cruise Day 42

Rarotonga, Cook Islands.

This morning we were tendered to the port of Avatiu, which is near the main town of Avarua.

a warm welcome

We then embarked on the local bus for a "hop-on-hop-off" ride around the island.

Our first stop was at Muri Lagoon.

We then had a walk, stopping for a taste of cocunut slices.

We then had a swim and snorkel at Titikaueka beach (opposite Fruits of Rarotonga).

We continued walking, passing one of many family burial sites.

We had a quick look at the Maire Nui Tropical Gardens.

We then caught another bus, passing the Cook Islands Christian Church (built of coral & limestone in 1853).

Our next stop was at the Rarotongan Beach Resort, at Aroa Beach, where we bumped into Jim & Gay and Iris & Ian.

We had a delicious lunch of Game Fish "Ika Mata" and Cajun- spiced Calamari,

before another swim and snorkel.

Then it was back onto the bus.

At the supermarket, we met another local (an Aussie who immigrated 40 years ago) and his cute vehicle.

Then it was another tender back to our ship, and a lovely sunset farewell.
