Cruise Day 19 of 35.
After docking at the port, we hired a pleasant and
informative taxi driver, John, to show us the sights of this megacity for 8
hours.
Our first stop was outside the Post Office.
Next stop was outside the Asiatic Library and Town Hall,
where the Proclamation of India reverting to the Crown was read out in 1857.
We then stopped at, and went into St. Thomas’ Church.
Next, we stopped and walked around the impressive Gateway to
India monument, and the equally impressive Taj Mahal Hotel.
We then stopped outside the Regal Cinema.
Next stop was at the Bombay University, with several cricket
ovals across the road.
We then stopped and walked around another architectural gem,
the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus – CST (previously known as the Victoria
Railway Station).
We then drove on Marine Drive, alongside Chowpatty Beach, to
Malabar Hill.
We then passed the mega home of Mumbai’s wealthiest man –

Next, we stopped to look at the Haji Ali Mosque.
We then stopped to look at Dhobi Ghat, the massive outdoor
laundry.
We then drove through a Muslim slum.
We then stopped at, and walked around the Jain Temple.
The next stop was at the Mani Bhaven Gandhi Museum, where
the great man resided from 1917 to 1934.
We then stopped at Jyotiba Phule Market (previously called
and still known as Crawford Market), for a quick wander and shop.
We then returned to our ship, and cruised out with sunset
over the city.
