Barcelona, Spain (Day 6 of 7).
Another day of gastronomical delights, walking and
sightseeing.
We started the day by visiting Mirades de Gegant – the workshop
of the Giants we saw parading on Sunday (thanks for the tip Trev).
We then had an early lunch at – www.4gats.com – a restaurant frequented by
Picasso and other luminaries (another Trev tip).
We then revisited the Barcelona Cathedral, this time to see
the cloisters, and the Crypt of St. Eulalia.
Next, we dropped into see the four remaining columns from
the Roman Temple of August.
We then dropped into Pastisseria Escriba – www.escriba.es – for hot chocolate and tarte
de pomme.
We then walked through (without eating) the amazing - http://www.operasamfaina.com/?lang=en
, which is underneath the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
We then visited another Gaudi-designed masterpiece, Palau
Guell.
Whilst Di took a well-earned rest, Bill soldiered on, by
metro to the Placa d’Espanya, then bus up to Castell de Montjuic.
Bill then walked down, passed Fundacio Joan Miro, the
Olympic Stadium, the Museu d’Art de Catalunya, the Magic Fountain, the Placa d’Espanya,
to Parc de Joan Miro, the site of Miro’s sculpture Dona/Ocell (all worthy of a
visit when we return one day).
For our farewell dinner in Barcelona, we had delicious lobster paella at –
www.mariscCO.com , who have a model of Salvadore Dali riding a baby rhinoceros he had dissected in this establishment!
